Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of OpenMaps (openmaps.dev), a service of Brthrs Agency, the company affiliated with and operating OpenMaps. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

1. The service

OpenMaps lets you create interactive maps by describing them in plain language, using open data, and share them through a public viewer. The service is provided by Brthrs Agency and is under active development: features may change, be added or be removed over time.

2. Your account

You need an account to create maps. Keep your sign-in email secure — anyone who can read your email can sign in with your magic links. You are responsible for what happens under your account. New registrations may be placed on a waiting list before access is granted.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use OpenMaps to:

  • break the law, or infringe the rights of others (including privacy and intellectual-property rights);
  • publish maps containing unlawful, misleading, hateful or harassing content, or other people's personal data without a lawful basis;
  • probe, overload or disrupt the service, circumvent rate limits or security measures, or access other users' projects;
  • scrape or systematically harvest the service or its data beyond what the open-data licences allow.

4. Your content

You keep all rights to the maps and content you create. You grant Brthrs Agency the licence needed to host, display and distribute your content for the purpose of running the service — including showing published maps to their visitors.

Publishing a map makes it public: anyone with the link can view it, and it may be listed in the public map library unless you opt out. You are responsible for making sure your published content is lawful and accurate.

5. Open data and attribution

Maps are built on open data from third-party providers (such as PDOK/Kadaster, KNMI, OpenStreetMap and others credited in the footer and viewer). That data comes with its own licences and attribution requirements, which remain in force when you share or reuse a map. OpenMaps displays the required attributions — do not remove them.

6. AI-generated content

Maps and text generated through the chat are produced by AI models and can contain mistakes. Verify the result before relying on it; OpenMaps output is not professional, legal or safety advice.

7. Availability and changes

We aim to keep the service available but provide it "as is" and "as available", without warranties of uninterrupted operation or fitness for a particular purpose. We may modify or discontinue (parts of) the service; if we discontinue it entirely we will give you reasonable notice to export your maps.

8. Liability

To the extent permitted by Dutch law, Brthrs Agency is not liable for indirect or consequential damage arising from your use of OpenMaps, including loss of data or profit, or for the content of third-party open-data sources. Nothing in these terms limits liability for intent or gross negligence.

9. Termination

You can stop using OpenMaps and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, after a warning where that is reasonable. Upon termination your published maps are taken offline.

10. Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by Dutch law; disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the current version and significant changes will be announced in the app. Questions? Contact us at [email protected].
